Filmify is a Nuke tool that I am developing to try and emulate the look of film inside of Nuke instead of going to a separate program.
I decided to make this tool mainly because I enjoy the way film looks and oftentimes in the past tried recreating the 'film' look with my photography, and recently whilst scrolling through social media I kept seeing videos for this great paid tool called Dehancer which is a film emulation tool for Davinci Resolve, AE/Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro, this tool whilst I'm sure is great is happens to only be available for programs that I'm not familiar with, so I went looking for a tool that would do the same in Nuke, which is the program that I primarily use and to my surprise there seemed to be very little options for this kind of tool, so I decided to take on the challenge of trying to make a film emulation tool for Nuke.
This tool in its current state is not in a fully finished state with the features I would like it to have however if you want to give it a try in its current state you can download it here Filmify

Current Features:
Exposure Emulation
trying to emulate the way exposure works on film with how the shadows start to expose more when the highlights become overexposed due to the silver halide crystals being more sensitive to light in the shadows due to lack of exposure to light
Film Stock Emulation
Control the exposure and saturation
limit the value range to mimic that of a film stock
Bloom/Halation
Control the bloom and halation effects
Sprocket Emulation
Emulate the look of broken or misaligned sprockets on the film strip causing the image to move about when played through a projector
Colour breathing
recreating the look of uneven development due to inconsistencies with developing fluid throughout the development process.
Planned features and changes:
General addition
Seed control for procedural components
Exposure Emulation
I am currently looking into better techniques for doing this kind of emulation
Film Stock Emulation
plan to add controls/options for matching specific film stock looks or the common ranges of other film stocks
Bloom/Halation
add more controls
Colour Breathing
implement better solution
implement better control
implement uneven emulsion layers
Film Damage
implement a film damage element to the tool
custom procedural solution
Vignette
add a vignette tool and controls
Film Grain
Add Film Grain options
I started off this journey with what I thought was a robust knowledge of how film and film development worked from my time studying media production at College. I found that coming back to this depth of knowledge after studying VFX and film at university brought a lot of this prior knowledge into a new light and brought a much better understanding of how and why film has this unique look compared to digital methods of capturing images.
for this too, I plan to add some more controls and features to it and make some improvements to how it currently works.
